Satyendra Nath Bose, an Indian physicist, was a self-taught scholar and polyglot with a wide range of interests in various fields including physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, mineralogy, philosophy, art, literature, and music.

He was a member of many scientific research committees in independent India. Bose specialized in mathematical physics and gained his greatest recognition for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, which laid the foundation for Bose-Einstein statistics and the Bose-Einstein condensate theory.
