    His father, Henry, came from Montpellier, where the family was important in the legal and administrative history of Languedoc. His mother, Catherine Bajet, was related to the weathy de Sénac family. During Coulomb’s youth the family moved from Angoulême to Paris, where he attended lectures at the Collège Mazarin and the college de France.
